Queste due parole si pronunciano allo stesso modo, ma hanno significati molto diversi. L'aggettivo stationary significa “fermo, che non si muove”: The van ploughed into the back of a stationary lorry, il furgoncino andò a tamponare un camion fermo; Do not use the toilet while the train is stationary, non usate i servizi mentre il treno è fermo; a stationary target, un obiettivo fisso. Stationery, invece, è un sostantivo che si riferisce a oggetti di cancelleria come carta, penne, buste: The company specializes in supplying office stationery, la ditta è specializzata nella fornitura di articoli di cancelleria per gli uffici.
